Los Aguachiles, one of the best restaurants in Playa del Carmen
Playa has no shortage of restaurants, but it amazes me how many outstanding ones there are. If you want to be a tourist and eat at good restaurants, stay on 5th Ave. If you want to be more like a local and eat at fabulous restaurants, venture off The 5th. If you do, you must go to Los Aguachiles, one of the best restaurants in Playa del Carmen. There are now 2 Aguachiles in Playa, with more to open soon in Cancun.
The Pier in Playa del Carmen
It’s been a long, busy summer in Chicago, but I’m now where I belong, in Playa del Carmen. Weather is high 80′s during the day, low 80′s at night. Full moon on the water. Been walking the beach, sipping margarita’s, reading books and just relaxing. Great food everywhere we go.

Best Margartia Recipes to celebrate Cinco de Mayo
On May 5, 1862, the Mexican Army, against all odds, defeated French forces in the Battle of Puebla. While Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for the 5th of May) is celebrated in the Pub region, the holiday has taken on more meaning outside of Mexico than within — similar to how St. Patrick’s Day is more popular in the U.S. than in Ireland. On this day, many Mexicans around the world celebrate their Mexican ancestry and many people of all backgrounds take the time to appreciate Mexican culture. What better way to celebrate than with the Best Margarita Recipes!!!

Honor Flight to Honor World War II Vets
Although this blog and site are about Mexico, every now and then I write about something personal, and today it is a privilege to write about Honor Flight Network, a non-profit organization created to honor America’s vets for all of the sacrifices they made. We’re going to Washington, DC next week because Honor Flight Network is sending 79 vets from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to DC for the day and Pete Carmine, my father-in-law, is one of those veterans.

The Mayan Calendar has been considered one of the most in the world and has accurately predicted a surge of natural disasters for over 5125 years. The Mayan Calendar ends on December 21 2012: is it the end of the world or just an end to a calendar?
Sam goes to Mexico
Many of you shared the loss of my dog, Molsen, early in January. He was a devoted companion, who was always there for me. Yellow Labs are notoriously good dogs, and Molsen was the best of the best. There was a terrific void in my life and home without him, and although there will never be another Molsen, in early February I made the decision to get another puppy.
