June 1, 2011 Best places to stay in Playa
I’m really picky about places to stay, so I don’t have a Top 10 list, but I do have a top 4. I base my list on several things that are important to me.
May 30, 2011 How to choose a place to Stay in Playa del Carmen
There are several choices when it comes to choosing the right property to stay at in Playa del Carmen. First, do you want an all-inclusive property, a hotel or condo/hotel? All inclusives appeal to some people. Usually they are large properties with drinks and meals included. The good news is that drinks and meals are included. Most of the all-inclusives in Playa are extremely large properties with several thousand rooms, several pools and restaurants, and things to do for all age groups.
May 21, 2011 Nick and Meg arrive in Playa
It’s a shame, but I had to leave on Thursday, May 19, for a wedding in Chicago, and my son, Nick, arrives in Playa today with his girlfriend Meg. Meg has never been to Playa, so I hope she likes it. Nick texted me when he arrived,
May 18, 2011 Porto Playa
Today we go tour the units at Porto Playa. I have guests in 216 and as Matt and I are walking around, I see them leaving the unit. I’ve knocked on their door a couple of times to say “hi” and make sure they have everything they need, but I’ve not had any luck finding them home.
May 17, El Taj Ocean and El Taj Beach
Surprise, surprise, it’s another beautiful day in Paradise!!! The sun is shining, the birds are signing and we awake to the sound of waves crashing the shore. Today we visit both El Taj Properties: El Taj Ocean and El Taj Beach. The names are confusing. El Taj Ocean is on the beach and has views of the beach and water. El Taj Beach is across the street and some rooms have views.
May 16, Villas Sacbe and Maya Villa
I wake early, as always. I like to watch the sunrise on the beach and go for a run. It’s a beautiful morning and promises to be a beautiful day. We have breakfast at Asi Beach Club. It’s a very Italian buffet from 8:30 – 11:30 daily. There are Mexican breads and croissants, yogurts, fruit, cheese and meats, granola, omelettes, and, of course, expresso, cappuchino, latte or American coffee. Although we long to linger and enjoy conversation with people sitting around us, it’s time to get to work.
May 15, 2011 Leave Chicago and arrive in Playa
I left Chicago today and the weather was 39 degrees and rainy. It’s a great day to escape to Mexico, especially Playa del Carmen. Terry and I started going to Playa (as everyone refers to it as) in 1993. At that time the one-hour drive from the Cancun airport was on a dirt road filled with potholes. Now, it’s a 35 minute drive on a 4 lane divided highway decorated with Palm trees and sculptures most of the way.
