Imprevist Restaurant Review
Playa del Carmen has many great restaurants, but last night we went to Imprevist and were blown away by the gourmet quality, service, and ambiance Imprevist offers. We’d gone for breakfast when we were here in September, but wanted to try dinner because we saw so many people dining there.
They have about 10 tables outside and another 10 inside. Arrive before 7:30 pm if you want to sit outside, although the inside is beautifully decorated – like something out of Architectural Digest.
It’s wonderfully romantic at night. We opted to do a tasting dinner and we enjoyed spinach croquettes, tuna tartar, won-tons filled with duck, filet of grouper, and beef tenderloin. Each item was spectacular and the presentation was stunning. The subtle tastes and combinations is like nothing I have ever experienced. Each had a sauce that would rival anything from a French restaurant. It was one of the best meals of my life and definitely the best meal I have ever had in Mexico.
Our waiter was professional and I felt pampered. He helped make an outstanding wine recommendation as well as dessert (we shared a cheesecake that was light and airy, and a warm bread pudding with a light caramel sauce). We also had coffee and cognac and I loved the big, glass brandy snifters used.
The menu changes monthly to provide the best seasonal produce and ingredients.
We also talked with the owner and Chef Juan Diego Solombrinoto complement him on his talents. He is a lovely man who trained in London, and opened a variety of restaurants around the world. That experience is evident in the menu items: Asian fusion and International meat and seafood entrees.
Some nights there is live entertainment outside. They take reservations and you can make reservations on their Facebook page. In fact, take a look at Imprevist’s Facebook page for pictures of different menu items and to see what all the fuss is about. The menu changes often, and they have special menus for different occasions.
Even the prices were reasonable especially considering the quality of the food. There are few places in Playa where you need a reservation to get in, but I’d highly recommend that for Imprevist. You can book directly on Imprevist’s website or call
